This year, Thomas Edison School has the privilege to host a STEM Scout after school program in conjunction with the Boy Scouts of America. The program consists of various modules including mini labs the students participate in to explore different topics. The module they are working on in this video is called “What’s the Matter” and allows students to explore the different states of matter and how changes between states occur. The mission of this program is to instill in students the basic principles they would learn in Boy Scouts such as integrity, responsibility, and respect, but through stimulating STEM activities. The goal is to tap into the curiosity students have about the STEM world in order to better prepare them for the future.

a group of elementary school students from Hudson their lab coats are small here at the Thomas Edison School Union City group of 35 students more interested in science technology engineering and math or stem are participating in the schools stem Scout program every Thursday the word Grace 3 4 & 5 come to stem class Hands-On after school program that allows kids to learn experiment and have fun with science very good what is the difference between Thomas Edison school says the program is an experiment well to see how stem can improve the learning experience as we know we live in a very technology-driven world so we need to make sure that we are adapting are teaching methods to meet the needs of the changes that are going on around us so that we can really prepare these kids for the few there's this boy scouts sanction program Just For Girls two students we spoke with said they signed up with their Futures in mind because I want to be a scientist when I grow up I heard that had to do with technology engineering in science and all that and I really like participating in that and I had like a feeling that it was going to be great and all that so I signed up and. The program is broken up into modules tackle a different area of stem and last 4 to 6 weeks during this module these young scientists are learning about the states of matter experimenting with solids liquids and gases and how they can change as the program has endless benefits to these students inside and outside the classroom through their experiments the students practice teamwork communication and critical thinking and talk to my friends easier cuz we work as a group now and it helps me in science class at the end of each module instead of a traditional Scout bad on the stash be stem Scouts get an electronic that classroom portal that they can view at home with their families their received their badges for this module next Thursday in Union City Jessica orbe on fios1 news
